Early Entrepreneurship, Georgia Southern University, and Model UN
In high school, my entrepreneurial spirit, strategic mindset, willingness to learn new skills, and creative energy met in a whirlwind of activities.
Music was a big influence in my life and a large creative outlet. My schedule involved:
- Playing the Bass Guitar for our school's Jazz Band every morning.
- Symphonic Band twice a week (where I played Trombone)
- Weekly Trombone Practice
- Marching Band Practice twice a week
- Youth Group Music Practice (bass)
- Praise Band Performances at Youth Group (bass)
- Marching Band Performances and Competitions / Parades
- AP Music Theory Class - Theory
- AP Music Theory Lab - Performance
- Church XStream Touring Group - Band Practice (Bass / Trombone)
- Sunday Praise Band Performances
- CLASS ACT - High School Performing Arts Group Twice a week (Bass Guitar)
- CLASS ACT - Regional School Performances (Bass Guitar)
- I played Bass Guitar in a Touring Rock Band
- I recorded multiple albums with 100's of shows
Music was a passion. But to succeed, I had to be able to learn, adapt, and market the product. I eventually learned to make my own websites and graphic designs to promote my music endeavors.
This eventually led me to learn 3d Modeling, Animation, Adobe Creative Suite, film editing, and so many more tools from emerging tech.
I transferred this passion into music beyond self-promotion. In my junior year of high school, we filmed a documentary series throughout the entire marching band season, covering camps, practices, performances, competitions, and messages for the next classes of students.
We sold the documentary to parents and students and had a nearly 100 percent success rate. It gained local earned media coverage and spawned requests from other schools for similar production.
Upon graduating high school, I set out to Georgia Southern University. I continued to play music in bands and occasionally toured and played shows. I recorded multiple albums and music was still a creative outlet. I joined the Southern Jazz Band and somehow got recruited into a short-lived sport that would have me - Rugby.
I eventually discovered the Model United Nations program and became enthralled, applied, and was awarded a new focus - this was another place where my creative strategic thinking could shine and a team of peers who were hungry to collaborate and learn.
Model UN taught me the importance of preparation, being well-rounded, being able to write and speak persuasively, and the ability to lead a team towards a common, uniting purpose.
During my time in the Model UN program, we won numerous competitions - in fact, we won 1st place for position papers and first place as a team of delegates. I also received the highest honors as an individual delegate.
It was at the yearly competition in New York City, where I felt most successful as a leader and most alive as a strategist, that I decided I would move to NYC and make my mark.
